ECOR Elections

There are a total of 6 Elected Representatives to ECOR, two from each faculty rank.  Elected representatives serve a 3-year term and will represent faculty concerns and issues.  To ensure a balance of continuity and renewal, terms are staggered and different seats are up for election every year.

For 2022, there are two open positions for Associate Professor and one for Assistant Professor.

What to expect
ECOR representatives should be able to speak to your interests and concerns in discussions and planning for research at MGH. Representatives are expected to:
  • Attend bi-weekly ECOR meetings: ECOR meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday of the month (except for August).
    •  Meetings are from 12 PM - 2 PM      
  • Chair the monthly Research Council Meetings: sixty minute forum held on the first Monday of the month (except July and August).
    • Elected Representatives are responsible for setting the Research Council agenda for each meeting by working with the Director of ECOR.
    • The chair helps drive the agenda items based on feedback received from the community, and items of special interest.
    • Elected Representatives alternate being the chair for each metting.
    • Meetings are from 12 PM - 1 PM.
  • Increase interaction with members of the research community. Elected representatives make themselves available during "drop in hours" before and after each Research Council Meeting to allow individuals to ask questions, raise any concerns or issues or bring forward any suggestions they may have. 
  • Represent the research community at ECOR Meetings: Elected representatives represent the research community at ECOR and reps should be ready to give updates periodically at ECOR meetings.

Who can nominate

  • You may nominate yourself or another person.
  • All nominees this year must hold the faculty rank of either Professor or Assistant Professor and be primarily engaged in research at MGH.
  • All MGH faculty with an academic rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, and who are primarily researchers, are eligible to nominate and vote.

How to Nominate
To make a nomination:
Go to the online nomination form and enter the nominees information and include a brief statement (2-3 sentences) answering, “Why would nominee be a valuable representative to ECOR from the MGH research community?” (This statement is required whether you are nominating yourself or someone else).

Review Process
The information you provide will be used by the Nominating Committee to review the nominees. All information, as well as willingness to serve, will be confirmed by the Nominating Committee before any candidate’s name is included on the ballot. This information will be used to build a slate of candidates for each of the 3 available slots.

Key Dates for the 2022 Elections

  • Nominations deadline: Wednesday, September 21, 2022 - 5:00 pm
  • Voting opens: Friday, October 21, 2022
  • Candidate Introduction at Research Council: Monday, November 7, 2022
  • Voting Closes: Monday, November 28, 2022, 12:00 noon
  • Elected Rep’s Introduction at Research Council: Monday, December 5, 2022
