1. Science as Art Exhibit at the CNY

The "Science as Art Exhibit" will showcase the science-inspired artistic works of Mass General researchers.

Selected pieces will be on display in the lobby of Building 149 for one month starting in late March, after which they will be relocated to adorn the CNY114 and CNY149 Buildings as part of our permanent collection.

Great examples of art to submit include microscopic images, artist renderings of science, and failed/successful cover art images for journals.

Each image should be submitted in JPEG or TIF format at a minimum 300 dpi resolution and rendered at 16”x20”.  Selected images will be printed onto framed canvas.  Images should be copyright free and devoid of attribution text, signatures by artists, or embedded title of the art work.

We hope to showcase up to 100 art pieces from our researcher community across the MGH campus, so please submit multiple pieces for consideration!

Submissions will be accepted until February 28th, 2020 using the following link:

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

1. MGH Physician and/or Scientist Development Award 2020

Four Year Award for Investigators
who are Underrepresented in Academic Medicine*
*Fundamental, Clinical, Translational, and Health Services investigators are all eligible

Applications for grants are invited by the MGH Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI), and the Executive Committee on Research (ECOR).

What is the Award?
The MGH Physician/Scientist Development Award (PSDA) is designed for MD and/or PhD investigators at MGH who are considered underrepresented in academic medicine (URiM). This Award is intended to provide transitional funding for support in the development of physicians and scientists underrepresented in academic medicine, and thereby increase opportunities for URiM researchers to advance to senior positions in academic medicine at MGH.  This award is a key faculty initiative of the CDI. We encourage applicants to engage with the center and learn more about our programs and other initiatives: www.massgeneral.org/cdi.The CDI will evaluate the need for this Award on a regular basis.

Am I URiM (Underrepresented in Medicine)?
For the purposes of the PSDA, MGH follows the definition of underrepresented in medicine and biomedical research (URiM) of the NIH and the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).  URM groups may include Latino/ Hispanic (including Brazilian), African-American/Black, American Indian, Native Hawaiian and Alaskan Natives, among others. Please note that Asians are not considered URiM, UNLESS they are underrepresented relative to the population MGH serves, e.g., Cambodian or Laotian.

How much is the award?
Up to $180,000 plus 15% indirect costs, over a three or four-year period, with a maximum of $60,000 plus indirect costs per year for 3 year awards and a maximum of $45,000 plus indirect costs per year for 4 year awards

2. NIH Supplement Funding Opportunity for K Award Recipients

The NIH recently announced Administrative Supplements to Promote Research Continuity and Retention of NIH Mentored Career Development (K) Award Recipients and Scholars. The purpose of this program is to ensure continuity of research among recipients of mentored career development (K) awards by providing supplemental research support to help sustain the investigator’s research during critical life events. Project Directors/Principal Investigators of the following activity codes are eligible for the award: K01, K07, K08, K22, K23, K25, K38, K43, K76, and K99/R00 (on the mentored K99 portion of the K99/R00).

For the purposes of this program, childbirth, adoption, and primary caregiving responsibilities of an ailing spouse, child, partner, or a member of the immediate family during the project period are critical life events that would qualify for consideration. Evidence that the circumstance may affect advancement of the mentored career development award or productivity must be provided. In circumstances in which the critical life event is pending and is expected to occur during the project period, the supplement request may be submitted in advance of the event.

The supplement may be used to support additional personnel, computational services, supplies, and equipment that will promote the continuity of the career development research project during a period in which the PD/PI experiences critical life events which have the potential to impact research progress or potential productivity. Administrative supplements must support work within the scope of the original project.

NOTE: For retention supplements to support first-time NIH R01-Equivalent Awards, see the Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Administrative Supplement for Continuity of Biomedical and Behavioral Research Among First-Time Recipients of NIH Research Project Grants, NOT-OD-20-055.

When is the deadline for K award supplements?
Submission dates vary by awarding NIH Institute and Center (IC). See Table of IC-Specific Information and Requirements for more details.

How to Apply
To submit, see the “Application and Submission Information” section of the NIH Notice NOT-OD-20-054, It is strongly recommended that the applicants contact their respective program officers at the NIH Institute/Center supporting the parent award to confirm that the supplement falls within the scope of the parent award.

If you have questions, please contact MGH ECOR at ecor@mgh.harvard.edu or call 617-643-7420.
