1. Core of the Week: CCIB DNA Core

CCIB DNA Core

The Center for Computational and Integrative Biology (CCIB) DNA Core provides conventional Sanger DNA sequencing, Oligonucleotide Synthesis, custom molecular biology services, and high-throughput laboratory research automation services including project design and implementation.

In addition, the core has developed a low-cost high-throughput approach for Complete Plasmid Sequencing which combines massively parallel sequencing with automated plasmid assembly.

2. MGH Center for Comparative Medicine (CCM) Animal Ordering Web Site – Scheduled Maintenance

On Friday, 5/1/15, CCM will be performing scheduled maintenance to the Animal Ordering Web Site (http://ccm.partners.org). The downtime will begin at 6:00pm on 5/1/15 and end on Saturday 5/2/15 at 6:00pm.

This maintenance is part of the Partners Healthcare project to relocate the CNY Data Center to the all-new Marlborough Data Center (MDC).

Please do not attempt to access the application during this maintenance window. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. If you have any questions or problems, please email us at MGHCCM@PARTNERS.ORG

3. Call for Abstracts: Center for Skeletal Research Symposium

Wednesday, June 10, 2015; 1:00 - 5:00pm, O’Keeffe Auditorium, Blake 1

Abstract Submission Deadline: May 8th at 5pm EDT

The goal of this symposium is to bring together the Boston bone research community for an exciting afternoon of scientific exchange. The session will feature talks by talented invited leaders of the field and by young investigators who will describe the research they are conducting with the help of Pilot Grants awarded by the Center. An important feature will be a poster session with prizes, which we hope will be an occasion for informal interchange about new research ideas. Please register in advance due to limited seating.

5. Call for Abstracts: Present your poster at the Connected Health Symposium

October 29-30, Seaport Hotel and World Trade Center, Boston

As part of the 2015 Partners HealthCare Connected Health Symposium (Oct 29-30, Boston), we are pleased to announce a poster session in collaboration with the Journal of Medical Internet Research.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

1. MGH ECOR Formulaic Bridge Funding Support

The Executive Committee on Research (ECOR) is accepting applications for Formulaic Bridge Funding Support.

What is it?
Formulaic Bridge Funding Support is offered to assist MGH Principal Investigators (PIs) during a lapse or delay in their research funding from the NIH. To be eligible for Formulaic Bridge Funding, applicants must have applied as a PI for an R01 or R21 NIH grant to support an independent, long-term research program.

The Formulaic Bridge process is open to:
1. Investigators whose grants received a score < or = 20th percentile and have received written communication from the NIH that the grant will not be funded.
2. Investigators whose grants received a fundable score (< or = 20th percentile), but are three months past the nominal start date of their NIH grant.

When is the deadline?
7th day of each month

2. FY15 DOD PRCRP and MSRP Program Announcements

This announcement is to notify the research community of the recently released Fiscal Year 2015 (FY15) funding opportunities for the Department of Defense (DOD) Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program (PRCRP) and the Multiple Sclerosis Research Program (MSRP) managed by the office of Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP).

3. Stress and Health Disparities: Merging Laboratory, Clinical, and Population Scientific Approaches

The goal of this funding opportunity is to work collaboratively to generate new evidence, methodologies, or tools that will contribute to translational research fostering deeper understanding of the roles of psychosocial stress response in human health and health disparity.

Up to $75,000 is available for cutting-edge, interdisciplinary translational research that enhances our understanding of the fundamental biological mechanisms involved in disease conditions that disproportionately affect health disparity populations. The ultimate goal is to develop therapies or interventions that can directly or demonstrably contribute to the reduction or elimination of health disparities.

Research priority areas include:

Stress Biology and Disease Pathways
Measuring Stressors, Stress Response, and Resiliency

These topics were addressed at the “Stress and Health Disparities: Merging Laboratory, Clinical, and Population Scientific Approaches” symposium held in October 2013.

Applications are due by May 14, 2015.

5. Limited Submission Funding Opportunities

We ask that all MGH Investigators interested in applying for any limited submission award submit a Letter of Intent (see detailed instructions below) to the MGH Executive Committee on Research (ECOR) by the deadline indicated for each award to be considered to receive an institutional nomination.

Process
Submit a one- to two-page Letter of Intent (LOI) to the MGH Executive Committee on Research (ECOR) via email to ecor@partners.org. In addition to your LOI, please include an NIH Biosketch.

The letter of intent should include:

Name of the Principal Investigator with appropriate contact information
A descriptive title of the potential application
Brief description of the project
Brief description of why you specifically should be selected to receive institutional nomination for this award

In the event that there is more than one MGH investigators interested in applying for each limited submission award, the LOIs will be used to assess candidates and a review and selection process will take place.
