1. New CRP Epic Research webpage now available!

On Saturday, July 12, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and the Mass General Physicians Organization (MGPO) will begin using the new Epic revenue cycle system for administrative processes including patient scheduling, registration, coding and billing.

For your convenience, MGH Clinical Research Program (CRP) has put together information related to EPIC Research, with details on:

  • how to link your protocol to project fund,
  • how to associate patients and visit to a study,
  • how to use the ‘Billing Review Report’,
  • your department Epic Superusers, etc.

2. Core of the Week: Psychiatric and Neurodevelopmental Genetics Unit Core Lab Core

Psychiatric and Neurodevelopmental Genetics Unit Core Lab Core
Director: Jordan Smoller, MD, ScD
Location: Simches Research Building, 185 Cambridge Street, 6th Floor, Boston, MA 02114

The PNGU Core lab provides a variety of services intended to facilitate the identification and characterization of the genetic basis of psychiatric, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental disorders and to translate these discoveries into improvements in clinical care and public health.

Services include assistance with study design and start-up, custom genotyping (SNP, other), qPCR for CNV detection/confirmation, DNA extraction and quantification, and sample preparation, tracking, and storage.

The PNGU core is open to both internal (MGH) and external investigators.

1. Research Application Group Presents: Systems Day

July 22, 2014, 11:00am - 5:30pm, Haber Auditorium

As a follow up to last year’s well received System’s Day the Research Applications Group will be holding an all-day session to walk through in detail some of the exciting new functionality and applications along with a look ahead at what is coming. The goal of this all day session is to enhance and develop the user community of research applications.

Session Topics Include:

  • Research Navigator – Demo and Timeline
  • Research Applications Security (RAS) Demo
  • DCR Project – Project Overview, Timeline and Impact for Depts
  • InfoEd PD Usability Project – Project Overview and Timeline
  • Insight Roadmap
  • MicroStrategy Reporting Demo – Project Overview and Timeline

Specifically, these sessions will provide:

  • Live demonstration of the new functionality being developed across the system user groups
  • Open Question and Answer sessions

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

 

1. 2015 Harrington Prize for Innovation in Medicine

The Harrington Prize for Innovation in Medicine, presented by the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) and the Harrington Discovery Institute at University Hospitals - part of The Harrington Project for Discovery & Development, honors the physician-scientist who has moved science forward with notable achievements in innovation, creativity and potential for clinical application.

This annual prize provides the awardee with:

  • An unrestricted $20,000 honorarium
  • The Harrington Prize Lecture, delivered at the ASCI/AAP Joint Meeting
  • A review, published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation

2. Limited Submission Funding Opportunities

We ask that all MGH Investigators interested in applying for any limited submission award submit a Letter of Intent (see detailed instructions below) to the MGH Executive Committee on Research (ECOR) by the deadline indicated for each award to be considered to receive an institutional nomination.

Process
Submit a one- to two-page Letter of Intent (LOI) to the MGH Executive Committee on Research (ECOR) via email to ecor@partners.org. In addition to your LOI, please include an NIH Biosketch.

The letter of intent should include:
1. Name of the Principal Investigator with appropriate contact information
2. A descriptive title of the potential application
3. Brief description of the project
4. Brief description of why you specifically should be selected to receive institutional nomination for this award

In the event that there is more than one MGH investigators interested in applying for each limited submission award, the LOIs will be used to assess candidates and a review and selection process will take place.
