1. Core of the Week: Ragon Institute Imaging Core-Microscopy
|
Ragon Institute Imaging Core-Microscopy
Director: Galit Alter, Ph.D.
Location: 400 Technology Square, room 810/812
The mission of the Ragon Institute Imaging Core is to bring the latest imaging modalities to bear on fundamental molecular and cell biological questions pertaining to human disease. As an MGH core facility, it serves the greater MGH community in all aspects of advanced microscopy and image analysis. The Microscopy division of the Ragon Institute Imaging Core is located on the 8th floor of 400 Technology Square in Cambridge (Main Street). The core offers training, assistance and access to a wide variety of imaging systems including slide scanners (TissueFAXS and Zeiss MIRAX MIDI) for rapid imaging of tissues and adhered cell populations, high resolution confocal imaging (Zeiss LSM510), and advanced live cell imaging systems. There is also high-speed, flow-based imaging of cell populations in suspension using the ImagingStreamX MkII by Amnis. Our facility is unique in that our confocal and live cell imaging systems are situated in a BL2S facility. In addition, consultation is provided on sample preparation, experimental design, and advanced image analysis, in addition to assistance with all aspects of the imaging process.

2. Identifying External Funding Opportunities with COS Pivot
|
Through our affiliation with Harvard University, all Partners and MGH faculty, staff, and students have access to the funding opps database, COS Pivot. Pivot includes grants, awards, prizes, and fellowships, as well as support for travel, conferences, and equipment acquisition. It contains information about government, philanthropic, industry, and international funding opportunities from across scientific disciplines.
Pivot allows researchers to easily limit results by criteria including citizenship or residency, geographic location, or professional rank.
Additionally, COS Pivot Funding Alerts provide researchers with a weekly, individualized notification of new & updated funding opportunities based on the user’s saved searches. For more information, please click here.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
|
|
1. Partnership for Clean Competition
|
The Partnership for Clean Competition is a grant-making organization founded in 2008 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity by the United States Olympic Committee, United States Anti-Doping Agency, Major League Baseball and the National Football League. Every day, the PCC acts to protect the integrity of sport and public health by engaging and supporting the world's top scientists and innovators in high-quality anti-doping research and development.
The PCC is already accepting applications for grants and fellowships for the second funding round. Pre-applications are due on July 1, with full applications due a month later for those whose pre-applications are accepted. Funding decisions are made within 8 weeks and since 2008 have ranged from $10K to more than $400K, depending on the nature of the research and the funding needed. If you are interested in a future round of funding, pre-applications are reviewed three times per year: March 1, July 1, and November 1. Full applications are due the following months: April 1, August 1, and December 1.
To learn more about PCC's research, including how to apply for a grant, please visit www.CleanCompetition.org
If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail or call Michael Pearlmutter, PCC Executive Director at mpearlmutter@cleancompetition.org or (719) 866-3307.

2. Limited Submission Funding Opportunities
|
We ask that all MGH Investigators interested in applying for any limited submission award submit a Letter of Intent (see detailed instructions below) to the MGH Executive Committee on Research (ECOR) by the deadline indicated for each award to be considered to receive an institutional nomination.
Process
Submit a one- to two-page Letter of Intent (LOI) to the MGH Executive Committee on Research (ECOR) via email to ecor@partners.org. In addition to your LOI, please include an NIH Biosketch.
The letter of intent should include:
1. Name of the Principal Investigator with appropriate contact information
2. A descriptive title of the potential application
3. Brief description of the project
4. Brief description of why you specifically should be selected to receive institutional nomination for this award
In the event that there is more than one MGH investigators interested in applying for each limited submission award, the LOIs will be used to assess candidates and a review and selection process will take place.
