5. IRB and QI Roundtable Series

Sponsored by the MGH Clinical Research Program, the Partners Human Research Office (IRB) and the Partners Human Research Quality Improvement Program (QI)
This series is designed for all researchers and study staff who are submitting materials to the IRB and planning to conduct a study. The first part of each session will elucidate ethical and regulatory aspects of human subjects research and provide guidance on what information the IRB needs for review. The second part of each session will be presented by the QI Program and will provide additional guidance, tools and practical tips on how to adhere to these regulations in your research.
Session 1: Part 1: New Submissions: Initial Review of Human Subjects Research at Convened Meetings of the IRB (Full Board Review)

6. CRP Spotlight Series: Managing and Reporting Unanticipated Problems Including Adverse Events

Dr. Hohmann will discuss the events that constitute an “unanticipated problem.” As part of the discussion, Dr. Hohmann will mention the current regulations governing unanticipated problems and the requirements for reporting such events. Sarah White will discuss the best practices for identifying, documenting, and reporting unanticipated problems to the IRB and sponsors according to the regulations and Partner’s Polices.
This program meets the requirements of the Board of Registration in Nursing, at 244 CMR 5.00, for 1 contact hour of nursing continuing education. RCR Eligibility: Completion of this course will fulfill one lecture/discussion requirement.

8. Study Electronic Data Capture: REDCap and StudyTRAX
|
Wednesday, February 26, 3:00pm- 4:00pm, Simches Room 3.110
This goal of this presentation is two-fold. First, provide an overview of two electronic data capture (EDC) applications offered through Partners Research Computing, REDCap and StudyTRAX. Second, provide common reasons, factor and issues related to choosing between these two EDC applications.
This presentation is intended for researchers considering the use of REDCap or StudyTRAX. Attendees will learn about and compare functionality in both applications and examine differences in application development, product roadmap, and support model. Attendees will also learn about common factors, issues and investigator interests related to selecting the best fit.
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

Compare and distinguish functionality between REDCap and StudyTRAX

Describe the key factors, reasons and issues related to choosing between REDCap and StudyTRAX

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

1. Limited Submission Award: Hyundai Hope On Wheels
|
We ask that all MGH Investigators interested in applying for this award submit a Letter of Intent (see detailed instructions below) to Harry W. Orf, PhD, Sr. Vice President for Research, and ECOR, by January 24, 2014 to be considered to receive an institutional nomination.
Process
Submit a one- to two-page Letter of Intent (LOI) to Dr. Orf (horf@partners.org), Sr. Vice President for Research, with a copy to ECOR@partners.org. In addition to your LOI, please include an NIH Biosketch. The deadline to submit your LOI is Friday, January 24, 2014.
The letter of intent should include:
1. Name of the Principal Investigator with appropriate contact information
2. A descriptive title of the potential application
3. Brief description of the project
4. Brief description of why you specifically should be selected to receive institutional nomination for this award
In the event that there is more than one MGH investigators interested in applying for this award, the LOIs will be used to assess candidates and a review and selection process will take place.
Hyundai Hope Grant Program
Hyundai Hope On Wheels is pleased to announce a Request for Proposals (RFP) for its 2014 Hyundai
Hope Grant Program. The intent of the Hyundai Grant Program is to provide funding for principal investigators whose research projects are likely to have a significant impact on improving the understanding of the biology of childhood cancer, developing novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for pediatric malignancies, or advancing knowledge about what is known in the field of pediatric cancer research. Projects to be funded by this program will be those that pursue research that is potentially transformational in nature. This year, up to $10 million in grant awards will be available for pediatric cancer research.
Key Program Details:

2. Alex’s Lemonade Stand: 2014 Pediatric Oncology Student Training (POST) Program
|
ALSF is dedicated to engaging researchers early in their careers and leading the most promising young scientists toward finding cures for pediatric cancer.
We have designed The POST Program for graduate and medical students in an effort to support the next generation of researchers interested in the field of pediatric oncology research. Students have the opportunity to train with a mentor who is conducting research in the pediatric oncology field during the summer break. Students may join a research project already underway in a mentor's lab or begin an original investigation with the mentor. Apply now!
