ANNOUNCEMENTS

1. Introducing PROMs Data and the RPDR Daily Query Tool

We are happy to announce that we now have the Patient Reported Outcome Measures Data (PROMs) available in the RPDR Query Tool; data incorporated from the Tonic Health Patient Reported Outcomes application.  Look for these query items under the PROMs folder in the RPDR Query Tool. Build your query using Surveys by Organization or by the PROMIS-10 Survey Instrument. (More Survey Instruments as well as EPIC PROMs Data coming soon!)

We are also happy to announce that the RPDR Daily Query Tool is now available. With this new functionality, you will be able to query those source systems which are updated in the RPDR on a daily basis. These source systems include Encounter Detail, Demographic Detail, Laboratory Tests, Radiology Tests, Providers, Specimens, Transfusion Services, and Biobank Patient Consents.  Perhaps the most powerful is the “Notes Search” which allows Diagnoses, Medications, Procedures, and many other concepts to be searched in notes in a daily fashion.  In addition to having more patients available, the daily query tool is helpful for finding time-sensitive patients for enrollment in studies and clinical trials.

For more information and access to the Daily Query Tool please visit the RPDR Home Page (http://RPDR) where you will find Query Tool Access information. Here you will be able to launch the new RPDR Daily Query Tool from the second launch button on the page.

For further information, please visit our home page (http://RPDR) or email us at RPDRHelp@partners.org.

5. REDCap, RPDR and Epic Integration - What’s the future?

Thursday, November 10, 2:30 - 3:30 pm, Simches 3.120

Speaker:Lynn Simpson, MPH, Research Data & Analytics Services Manager
Enterprise Research Infrastructure & Services (ERIS)

Last year, Partners Research Computing developed a tool to allow users who have access to RPDR (Research Patient Data Registry) to more easily import data into REDCap. This session will review the RPDR Data Import Assistant tool, access to REDCap and RPDR.  We will also discuss the limitation of this tool and gather use cases from attendees on what data and tools they need to streamline data capture from Epic, RPDR into their REDCap projects.

Main Objective: Provide feedback to Research Computing to help drive development for FY2017

Learning Objectives:
(1) Learn how to access REDCap, RPDR and the Data Import Assistant
(2) Learn which RPDR domains are supported and what data can be imported
Target audience: Researchers that have IRB approved access to request identifiable RPDR and Partners Epic data and want to use REDCap to store and manage that data.
In collaboration with the Harvard Catalyst, REDCap is a free, secure, web-based application hosted by Partners Research Computing and designed to support electronic data capture for research studies.
To learn more about REDCap visit: http://rc.partners.org/edcredcap.

Registration is required. Please contact Joseph Connolly with any questions.

6. Identifying External Funding Opportunities with COS Pivot

Are you interested in finding research or programmatic funding?  Pivot contains open calls for proposals and letters of intent for grants, awards, prizes, and fellowships, as well as support for travel, conferences, and equipment acquisition.  Federal, philanthropic, commercial, and international funding sponsors are included.  Pivot allows researchers to easily limit results by criteria including citizenship or residency, geographic location, or professional rank.

Come to this seminar to learn how you can:

  • Access Pivot and save searches to receive automated alerts regarding relevant funding opportunities
  • Diversify your funding portfolio by employing strategies to match your research with sponsors’ unique funding priorities

Please feel free to contact Joseph Connolly Jdconnolly@partners.org with any other questions regarding the course.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

1. The MGH Research Scholars Program

Applications are now being accepted by the Executive Committee on Research (ECOR) for the MGH Research Scholars Program

What is it?
The Massachusetts General Hospital Research Scholars Program was established with the aim of supporting MGH research faculty who are pursuing either fundamental (basic) or clinical research at the level of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor.  The intent of these awards is to support the careers of outstanding MGH investigators doing cutting-edge research that is highly innovative and expected to result in fundamental scientific discoveries and/or clinical applications. This year, we are asking applicants to choose one of three categories based on the research proposed in the application: Clinical research, Fundamental research, or Population and health research.

How much is each award?
These awards are for $500,000 over 5 years; and will be funded at $100,000 per year, including 15% indirect costs.

When is the deadline?
Tuesday, October 18, 2016 - 5:00 PM

How do I learn more and apply?

2. Claflin Distinguished Scholar Awards

Applications are now being accepted by the Executive Committee on Research (ECOR) for the MGH Claflin Distinguished Scholar Awards for Junior Faculty Women Investigators in Fundamental (Basic) & Clinical Research.

What are the Claflin Awards?
Although women scientists are recruited to Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) programs, their advancement to senior faculty positions is still far less frequent than that of their male counterparts.  In 1993, The Women in Academic Medicine Committee, originally chaired by Mrs. R. Morton Claflin, Honorary Trustee, was established to facilitate the academic careers of women in science at MGH.  Recognizing that a significant obstacle to career advancement is the difficulty of maintaining research productivity during the child-rearing years, this Committee, with the sponsorship of the Executive Committee On Research (ECOR), established the Claflin Distinguished Scholar Awards.  It is intended that this funding will increase opportunities for women to advance to senior positions in academic medicine.

How much is each award?
These are two year awards for $50,000 per year in direct costs, plus 15% for indirect costs.

When is the deadline?
Tuesday, October 12, 2016 - 5:00 PM

How do I learn more and apply?

3. NCI Outstanding Investigator Award (R35)

The National Cancer Institute is pleased to announce the Outstanding Investigator Award (OIA) funding opportunity announcement: PAR-16-411. The OIA will support investigators with outstanding records of productivity in cancer research with up to $600,000 in direct costs per year for seven years to provide funding stability. NCI anticipates making about 50 awards annually.

The OIA will allow funded investigators the freedom to embark on long-term projects of unusual potential in cancer research; the opportunity to take greater risks and be more adventurous in their lines of inquiry; and sufficient time to develop new techniques.

The applicant PD/PI will be expected to commit at least 50 percent of her/his research activities to the OIA; the Institution will be expected to commit at least 20 percent salary support.

Although MGH may submit more than one application to this program, provided each is scientifically distinct, an institutional review and a letter of nomination is required for applicants to this funding opportunity.

Anyone interested in being considered for nomination to this program must contact Katherine Book at ecor@mgh.harvard.edu by Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 12:00 pm (noon).

4. Limited Submission Funding Opportunities

We ask that all MGH Investigators interested in applying for any limited submission award submit a Letter of Intent (see detailed instructions below) to the MGH Executive Committee on Research (ECOR) by the deadline indicated for each award to be considered to receive an institutional nomination.

Process
Submit a one- to two-page Letter of Intent (LOI) to the MGH Executive Committee on Research (ECOR) via email to ecor@partners.org.  In addition to your LOI, please include an NIH Biosketch.

The letter of intent should include:

  • Name of the Principal Investigator with appropriate contact information
  • A descriptive title of the potential application
  • Brief description of the project
  • Brief description of why you specifically should be selected to receive institutional nomination for this award

In the event that there is more than one MGH investigators interested in applying for each limited submission award, the LOIs will be used to assess candidates and a review and selection process will take place.
